Neighbor engagement is required as a part of the Feeding America Operational Plan standard.

Developing new ways of using information collected from your neighbors

We gather input from neighbors through focus groups and surveys. Together, we’ll develop new ways of using the information we collect daily from neighbors to increase equitable access, help answer critical questions, and activate change.

Our Philosophy on Neighbor Feedback

Respect the scarcity of neighbor’s time by starting with an exhaustive look at readily available data.

Ensure that neighbor input is collected in a way that creates reliable "feedback loops" from which neighbors' voices can be captured and used to inform continuous improvement.

When engaging with non-English speakers, translating information is not enough. We have to provide the information or surveys in a way that connects to our neighbors and builds trust.

Avoid missing an opportunity to engage neighbors.

Helping Networks Grow Better Together.

We've engaged with hundreds of neighbors across the country to learn about the matches and mismatches neighbors see in the current service designs of charitable food networks. Here is a glimpse of some insights we discovered in Alexandria, Virginia.

SWIM’s organization of neighbor engagement was critical to the success of our food security work in Alexandria. They facilitated conversations with key at-risk populations, as well as the community at large. The survey they created and the focus groups held provided crucial feedback and suggestions that serve as the basis of our strategic planning process.

Share with your leadership team how our offerings

help you reach Feeding America’s new requirements.

It can be difficult to bring our partners in rural Western Nebraska together for a meeting of minds. SWIM provided us with the necessary tools, data, and structure to host an engaging virtual event for our partner agencies and stakeholders in that region of our service area to come together and share a vision forward for the network.
