Exploring AI

In our weekly team meeting we learned about the rising use of AI and how it can be beneficial for both our and our clients’ work. In the spirit of learning, I asked ChatGPT how AI can help us work smarter. Here’s what AI had to say (in bold) along with my thoughts (in italics) as a frequent user.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a powerful tool for increasing efficiency, automating repetitive tasks, and improving decision-making. Here’s how AI can help you work smarter:

1. Automate Routine Tasks: AI-powered tools like ChatGPT and Zapier handle scheduling, data entry, and drafting emails, saving valuable time.

😊 Agree. Although I don’t typically use it for routine tasks, it’s an important driver of efficiency in my daily work.

2. Enhance Research & Analysis: AI processes large amounts of data quickly, summarizing reports and identifying trends with ease.

😊 Agree. I still find it helpful to review and double check, but AI usually provides a strong first draft.

3. Improve Communication: AI transcription tools like Otter.ai capture meeting notes, while chatbots assist with FAQs and internal communication.

😊 Agree. At SWIM we use Fathom to record meeting notes. While it’s not perfect at transcribing, it’s a great resource.

4. Optimize Decision-Making: AI-driven analytics provide valuable insights, helping organizations make informed strategic choices.

🤔 Somewhat agree. AI is a powerful tool for analysis, but we need to be cautious about how we use AI driven insights to make decisions. We need human involvement to consider context, ethical considerations, potential biases in data and AI models, to name a few.

At SWIM, we are learning and experimenting with AI to understand their potential and integrate them into our work, while remaining deeply committed to advancing equity and ensuring that our designs are always centered around human needs. We believe that the power of AI should be harnessed responsibly and ethically, with a focus on fostering inclusivity, fairness, and accessibility for all individuals.
