Planning in Times of Disruption, Again
In January 2020, life in the United States seemed ordinary and predictable. Within a couple months, the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically changed everything. By mid-March, governments, businesses, and nonprofits were forced to suddenly and completely reshape their operations, creating a new reality that would transform how people worked, learned, and connected with one another. SWIM started working with our clients to plan during disruption.
At SWIM, we understand that strategic planning for nonprofits is more complex than ever. Sudden policy changes and economic shifts at the national level are creating unprecedented challenges as nonprofits continue to carry out their missions. SWIM was founded in January 2020, giving us a firsthand experience in how quickly social landscapes and economic frameworks can transform an organization’s operations. Similarly, the rapid policy changes during this first quarter of 2025 have forced businesses and nonprofits to rapidly adapt how they implement their strategic plans. The SWIM team can help organizations make adjustments as they navigate these sudden changes and help turn potential obstacles into opportunities for continued impact and growth.
As was the case during the COVID pandemic, SWIM is working to help organizations adapt to the sudden and unpredictable policy landscape of 2025. Our Navigating Rapid Change Tool allows organizations to think strategically about adjustments that are needed to comply with new national regulations while remaining committed to their strategic plans as they carry out their missions. The tool helps organizations discuss potential consequences of new policies, evaluate risks and opportunities, and determine the best course of action across key areas.
